The Great British Insulation Scheme is a scheme ran in connection with ECO4, but rather than the 'whole home' approach mentioned above, this scheme allows for 'Partial Projects', meaning you can get one or two insulation measures installed, without requiring other measures like heating overhauls.

This is perfect for properties with efficient heating systems like condensing combi boilers, but have no insulation. Heating controls can also be upgraded within this scheme where required, though you have to be on certain benefits (See below), or through an LA Flex application through your local authority.

Your 'lead' will come into our system, at which point we'll review all the information you've supplied us through your application, as well as other source such as Google Maps, EPC data, Rightmove/Zoopla listings etc, to assess what routes we could potential look at for you & your home (You may be interested in ECO4, but GBIS may be best for example).

We will then be in contact with you, to discuss what you've applied for & what we think is best, along with any other relevant information. If all goes well, we would then look at passing you & your 'lead' over to one of our approved installers, who would then take your information & what we've passed over, and book you in for a survey.

After this, your job will be entirely in the hands of the installer selected, though if required you can always get back in contact with us if you're struggling to get in contact with them.

We mainly deal with sourcing leads & passing them over to installers, who will organise & survey your property via a Retrofit Assessment themselves, though in some scenarios we may have availability to arrange & survey the property ourselves, though this is rare but if you were going down this route the survey date & booking of the Retrofit Assessment would be done through the same communication route we've used since your application.

We can cancel your application down if requested, it would be cancelled on our system, and if the job has been passed to an installer, we would get in contact with them to let them know you no longer want to proceed.

If your job has got way further down the line with an installer, you can cancel right up to the install beginning at no cost to yourself, there is no obligation to proceed. If your job is partially installed & you want to cancel, discuss this with your installer.

After completion, a Trustmark Certificate is generated which states all of the installed measures, dates, materials used, but alongside that, the individual measures also get Insurance Backed Guarantees, though who this is done through varies by measure & who individual installers use.

These don't always get sent out post-install, so if you don't receive anything but want the documents, make sure to get back in contact with your installer to request them.

In most scenarios - no, due to this not being a requirement of the scheme. If you speak to your installer, they can discuss this with you before your install as some will lodge if requested, though others may have this as a small chargeable fee (EPCs usually range from £40-£70).

Installers have to work to PAS2035 Standard, which runs alongside currently building regulations (Approved Document F), which dictates the requirement for upgrading ventilation in your home where required. This is mainly around properties which have no extraction ventilation in bathrooms, kitchens, utility rooms, and then if no background ventilation such as trickle vents on windows.

This is a requirements on 95% of jobs which require insulation to be installed, though in some rare cases ventilation upgrades are required on properties where no insulation is being installed (Heating only for example) if the property requires an upgrade due to mould/damp/condensation.

If you already have extraction ventilation & background ventilation, then usually no upgrades will be required but in some scenarios, upgrades are a requirement.

What ventilation the property requires is decided by a Retrofit Coordinator, but this only happens as one of the last steps before your install, so make sure to discuss this with your installer before the work is carried out or an install appointment is booked.
